Advantages to Becoming a Member of the Sigma Kappa European Alumnae Chapter

Are you moving to Europe? Are you already living in Europe? Are you studying abroad in Europe?

These are all wonderful reasons to join the Sigma Kappa European Alumnae Chapter!

Our current members are scattered across the world with ages ranging from 20 to 80! Some are studying abroad, maintaining successful professional careers, or are stay-at-home mothers. The diversity of our group ensures that our chapter events are always fun, but also nurture our unique sisterhood.

Given the distance between us all, we are primarily a virtual group. However, over the years, many of these ties have grown into wonderful friendships. We maintain our close Sigma Kappa bond and would also like to invite you to be part of it!

Advantages of membership:

  • Join a community of women living in Europe with an established connection to Sigma Kappa. Many members who lived in Europe in the past still participate in our European events. If you are already an alumnae member of another chapter, there is also an option to become an Affiliate member.

  • Benefit from a local, regional, national and international forum for obtaining information about living abroad, learning about educational and career opportunities in Europe, and forming meaningful professional and personal networks.

  • Develop one-on-one relationships with sisters.

  • Interact with other sisters who have similar interests.

  • Participate in service projects and fundraising for the Sigma Kappa Foundation.

  • Receive news on all Sigma Kappa EAC activities and events through regular chapter mailings.

Membership Requirements

Membership in the European Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Kappa is limited to sisters of the Sigma Kappa National Sorority who are alumnae in good standing.

Dues are $45 per year, with an optional donation to the Sigma Kappa Foundation (which the European Alumnae Chapter supports as our philanthropy). Affiliate membership is $15 per year. Dues can be paid via Paypal or check.

Our chapter is primarily a virtual group, with an annual meeting, local events, regular email updates, and a periodic newsletter.

The EAC annual meeting is our signature event of the year! Rotating amongst various European cities, this event attracts Sigma Kappa’s young and old from around the globe. In addition, there are local events throughout the year. For example, there are dinners, museum visits, weekends away, regional traditional celebrations (Christmas Markets) and casual get-togethers. We also have small gatherings in the US for our members stateside.

We are also very passionate about the Sigma Kappa European Alumnae Chapter Sisterhood Without Borders scholarship. We established this in 2005 and while we have been granting one scholarship a year since, we are currently working on making it possible to grant two scholarships a year.

Our hallmark philanthropy event is the Longest Day on June 21st. In this global sun up to sun down events, our members pledge their time across multiple time zones to raise money for Alzheimer’s research. Sisters in Australia kick off the event, while our sisters in California close it down. All the while, posting updates on social media.
